(01/02/2013) — The Lao-Indochina Group Public Company (LIG) was named among the ‘2012 Top 10 Successful Asean Enterprises Entering into China’ awardees, which were decided by the China-Asean Business Council.
“This is the first Lao company to win such an honourable prize,” the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) Deputy President, Mr Oudet Souvannavong, said at a press conference in Vientiane on Wednesday.
The company was awarded the honorary certificate in Beijing, China, on January 24 at a China-Asean New Year’s Party which doubles as the award ceremony for Chinese Enterprises Entering Asean and Asean Enterprises Entering China.
There was a festive atmosphere at the awards ceremony, with Chinese representatives and Ambassadors or Ambassador’s Representatives from 10 embassies of Asean countries in China present to toast the coming New Year.
Mr Oudet said there were 200 enterprises from China and Asean participating in this inaugural competition, including three companies from Laos, namely the Lao Brewery Company, Dao Heuang and LIG.
He said there were three basic qualifications for winning the ‘Ten Successful Asean’s Enterprises Entering into China’ award; one is that the participating Asean enterprises should gain profit in economic and trade cooperation, and get favourable comments from cooperation partners in China.
The second is that the trade volume, or investment and business turnover of participating enterprises should be considerably high, and the third is that participating enterprises should have sustainable-developing capacity and long-term planning in developing their enterprises.
Mr Oudet said the winners of the 2012 Top 10 Successful Asean Enterprises Entering into China also included companies from Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
It is not the only award the Lao-Indochina Group has won in recent times. It has also obtained certificates of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and congratulations from the government after over five years of business operation.
In addition, LIG recently won an Asean Business Awards 2012 in the growth category at the 21st Asean Business and Investment Summit Gala Dinner, presented in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
It won the award because its operations met the criteria set by the Asean Business and Investment Summit (Asean-BIS) Secretariat, according to LIG.
The criteria include the requirement that a company not only seeks to make a profit, but also plays an important role by generating social and environmental benefits for society. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce also awarded a Certificate of Congratulations to the company to certify that it has performed well and helped the country in terms of social and economic development in 2012.
It also obtained ISO 9001:2008 certification from the UK in recognition of the company’s quality management systems, along with other certificates recognising good manufacturing practices regarding food hygiene and quality management systems from the international organisations concerned.
