ພາສາຈິນ (25/01/2013) — Growing cassava for commercial sale is helping to improve villagers’ living standards in Hom district, Vientiane province.
Head of the cassava promotion unit in Hom district, Mr Khamdy Phalangsy, said the Lao-Indochina Group Public Company has arranged to buy more than seven tonnes of cassava from the villagers so they can earn more money.
The unit will encourage gardeners to grow more of the crop on an area of over 1,100 hectares. More than 590 families in 22 villages are interested in growing cassava for sale.
This fiscal year, farmers in Hom district should be able to yield at least 25 tonnes of cassava, worth more than 12 billion kip.
