ພາສາຈິນ A team representing the Lao Indochina Group won a shooting event held in Savannakhet province on Saturday to mark Uprising Day (August 23).
The Vientiane Shooting Federation cooperated with the Savannakhet provincial Shooting Federation to organise the friendly event, which was supported by the Lao Indochina Group Company.
Some 30 male shooters from Vientiane, the company, and Savannakhet province competed in team and singles events, including a ‘shoot-off’ event.
The Vientiane shooting team is being supported by the company through to the ninth National Games to be held in Luang Prabang province in December.
Company Chairman Mr Sengmaly Sengvatthana was joined by Mr Hongphachan Dalavong and Mr Singkham Sipaseuth in representing the company at the event.
The company team claimed first place in the ‘shoot-off’ event, followed by the Savannakhet provincial team and the Vientiane team. In the event using the IPSC brand of gun, Vientiane shooters took first through to third places.
Vientiane Shooting Federation President Mr Phoutthasack Soukaloun presented a trophy to the winning team in Vientiane on Monday upon their return from the tournament in Savannakhet province.
The Vientiane and Savannakhet teams will compete at the national games later this year. The Vientiane team has nine male and three female shooters, most of whom are veteran shooters with extensive experience at the national level.
Mr Phoutthasack said the Vientiane men’s team is hopeful of winning three gold medals at the games, while the female team hopes to claim two gold medals.
“We still want some funding from the Vientiane Sports Department to prepare the teams ahead of the national games. We are currently spending a lot of our budget on supporting the teams as they train and travel to compete at various events.”
The department spent 250 million kip preparing the shooting teams for the eighth National Games in Champassak province in 2008, where they won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
